ST LUKE'S CHURCH

St Luke's is founded in 1933 as a mission hall for the area of Cold Harbour. Canon Stather-Hunt, the then vicar of St Matthew's Church on Marlborough Road, led the vision and had a real interest in the community in this area.

Over the years St Luke's has played an integral role in the community. In the 1940s the church hosted a baby weighing clinic and was a popular place for young mums to meet. Several generations of children and teenagers have passed through the clubs run by the church.

In 2013, the building was extended. This redevelopment, known as "the Big project" meant that we can offer the community, a refreshed, reshaped and welcoming space.  As a result many new organisations and local groups are finding a home with us.

ST LUKE'S WITH ST MATTHEW'S CHURCH

There is one body, but it has many parts. But all its many parts make up one body. It is the same with Christ.  We were all baptized by one Holy Spirit. And so we are formed into one body. 1 Corinthians 12:12-13

St Luke's and St Matthews as sibling churches are working together to serve one parish.

Both churches keep their distinct character and complement one another in the search of what it means to serve Jesus in the neighbourhood today.

St Matthews lies closer to town on Marlborough road, whereas St Luke's reaches the edges of South Oxford, locally known as Cold Harbour.

Rev Jenni Williams is our overseeing parish priest and together with Rev Jane Lees, Rev John Williams, the church wardens and the whole church community, St Luke's with St Matthews live and thrive as one body with many parts.
